DECATUR-The Decatur Police discovered cocaine and other drugs during a routine traffic stop.
Here is how the Decatur Police describe events leading up to the arrest of one man:
“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
On June 18, 2015, Officer Montrez Payton with the Decatur Police Department’s Patrol Division was patrolling the area of Beltline Rd and Spring Ave SW.
Officer Payton observed a vehicle traveling on Beltline Rd displaying an expired tag. Officer Payton initiated a traffic stop in the 2600 block of Spring Ave SW. Officer Payton made contact with the driver and identified him as Benjamin Griffin. Officer Prosser arrived on scene to assist.
Griffin was found to have a suspended Alabama driver’s license. After further investigation, Griffin was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine and Suboxone. The cocaine located was consistent with the packaging and sales of illicit drugs. An assault rifle and drug paraphernalia were also located.
A large amount of U.S. currency was also located with the cocaine. The denominations of the U.S. currency located were consistent with drug sales. The U.S. currency was confiscated and is pending condemnation proceedings.
Griffin was placed under arrest for two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving while Suspended, and an Expired Tag. Griffin was transported to the Decatur City Jail where he was booked and held. Griffin was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $6,500.00 bond.”
