Sierria Crenshaw Thompson departed this life Monday, June 1, 2015, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. She was born June 27, 1942, to the late Homer Crenshaw and Ida Young Crenshaw in Nashville, Tennessee.
She confessed Christ at an early age at Seay-Hubbard United Methodist Church in Nashville where her grandfather was the pastor.
She graduated from Cameron High School in Nashville, and attended Tennessee State University where she studied business.
In 2003, she retired from Florence City Schools where she worked as the administrative assistant to the Deputy Superintendents. After a brief retirement, she returned to employment with Florence City Schools as an administrative assistant at Harlan Elementary.
Mrs. Thompson had a passion for her career. She truly treasured her interactions, and relationships that she cultivated with the children, parents, and staff in the Florence City Schools.
It gave her great pleasure to host family holiday dinners, especially Christmas, the 4th of July, and Thanksgiving. She loved traveling with her family to destinations near or far. Her most cherished trip was the family Thanksgiving vacation to Gatlinburg in 2012. It was filled with laughter, games, campfire songs, go cart racing, music, old family stories, and delicious food.
In her younger days, she enjoyed driving sports cars, including being the first to choose and test drive her husband Harvey’s beloved 1968 Corvette, which is still in the family’s possession.
Mrs. Thompson was actively involved in the community. She served as the president of the Powell Elementary School PTO, as a board member of both the Children’s Advocacy Center, and The Music Preservation Society from its inception. She was also president of the W.C. Handy Music Festival in 1988 with her husband.
She will always be remembered for her love and dedication to family and friends alike. Her love, beautiful smile, affection for others and strength were heartfelt by all who knew her.

Her loving husband, Harvey Thompson; adored children, Kevin Beamon (Patrice), Harvey Thompson Jr. (Cynthia), and Kyron Garner (Hiram); dearest sister, Sandra Ford; sister-in-law, Chris Thompson; nephews, George Crenshaw Jr., Xavier Pratcher, Kimanthi Stewart (Emily), and Kayden Stewart; nieces, Rachelle Nix, Carleigh Eaton, Chelsea Nix, and Erin Nix; grandchildren, Teza Presley, David Pellum, Tyrus Fancher, Whitney Thompson, Santana Davis, Daylan Pellum, Jevin Reed, Schylar Thompson, Denisha Reed, Ashley Garner, and Devin Beamon; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
The services will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church in Florence, Alabama. Minister Billy Ray Warren, officiating with Rev. Joseph Marshall, Pastor.
Burial will be in in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence, Alabama.
The body will be placed in the church at 12:00 Noon. Public viewing will be Wednesday, 11:00am – 8:00pm.
