Judy Hendrix Major – Obituary

Judy Hendrix Major, 66, passed away May 9, 2015, after her second bout with breast cancer. She was born June 22, 1948.
She was raised in Hartselle and married to the late Jay Scott Major for 46 years and lived in Brandon, Mississippi for many years. Jay was a pharmacist and Judy owned a Hallmark Shop. They moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, 25 years ago where Jay continued his pharmacy practice and Judy worked and retired from Nash County Social Services after 25 years.
After Jay passed away, Judy returned to Decatur 22 months ago to be close to her sister, June, and her brothers, James and Jerry. She had a passion for life and it showed to all who knew her.
Judy loved to cook and was a volunteer with The Relay for Life Foundation.
She was a member of Decatur First Christian Church where she enjoyed her Sunday school class and helping the ladies with various church functions.
Judy leaves behind a wonderful family that includes a son, Judson Bryant Major (spouse, Amy Clack Major) from San Francisco, California; Janna Denise Major from Seattle, Washington; four grandchildren, Ruby Hudson, Anderson, Jake and Holden. Her siblings include two brothers, Jerry Thomas Hendrix of Brandon, Mississippi, James Bryant Hendrix of Falkville and a sister, June Hendrix Phillips of Decatur; and a host of nieces and nephews who live throughout the country.
A memorial service will be held today, May 12, 2015, at 5 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1701 Carridale Street SW, Decatur.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any memorials be made to First Christian Church, Decaur, or The National Breast Cancer Foundation at www.national breastcancer.org.
