Billy Ray Mitchell, 85, of Muscle Shoals, died Saturday, April 18, 2015. His visitation will be Monday, April 20th from 4 pm until 6 pm at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His memorial service will follow at 6 pm in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Larry Kilpatrick officiating.
Mr. Mitchell was an active member of Cox Blvd. Church of Christ. He was a member of IBEW local #558 and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mildred Mitchell; brother, Travis Mitchell; and son-in-law, Jim.
He was a dedicated man to his family, church, and friends. His life was a reflection of his faith and he taught by example.
After retiring from T.V.A., he spent his time helping others, traveling, and fishing.
He ministered to the inmates in the local jail, visited nursing homes, and most recently became active in a Christian drug re-hab program and was tireless in his effort to bring joy and peace to others. One of his greatest joys in life was re connecting with his navy buddies and spending time on Cedar Creek.
He is survived by his wife od 63 years, Carolyn Mitchell; daughter, Rhonda Mitchell; son, Dale Mitchell (Wanda); brothers, Dick Mitchell (Jane), Jimmy Mitchell (Marie); grandchildren, Taylor Mitchell and Laura Beth Erwin; great grandchildren, Braden, Ryder, Anna Rae, and Jackson; and countless nieces and nephews that were just like his own.
Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Mitchell, Tommy Wilson, Allen Pickens, Billy Pickens, Johnny Mitchell, Blake Mitchell, Neil Terry, and Cylus McMurtrey.
