Regency-Dress-9THE SHOALS-A workshop, A Primer on Lady’s Clothing of the Regency Era, will be held at the Florence-Lauderdale County Library at 350 N. Wood Ave on April 18, 2015 from 12:30 to 2:30. There is no cost for the event.

The Natchez Trace Parkway Association will host Triumphant Return Celebrating a New American Spirit on June 12-14, 2015, to honor the veterans of the victory of the Battle of New Orleans from the War of 1812. This living history event will include natchez trace assoceducation stations at the Sheffield Standpipe Encampment, General Jackson parading through Tuscumbia to historic Locust Hill, and a period Church Service at the Encampment on Sunday. The public is invited to all educational events at no cost.

In preparation for the June event, the Natchez Trace Parkway Association Alabama Chapter has asked Lisa Pace, historical re-enactor, and professional period correct seamstress, to host 1819stayA Primer on Lady’s Clothing of the Regency Era. Lisa’s deep love of history started as a child and continues today through various aspects of life. Nineteenth Century Americana dominates her interest, along with clothing and textiles of the era.

She has done Civil War reenacting and specializes in historically recreating men’s civilian garments of the time-frame. Innumerable hours have been spent in museums and with books as a result of her passion for her hobbies. This has afforded many opportunities to research and photograph period wears. She has attended numerous seminars in period sewing imagestechniques across the south to enhance her skill at recreating these pieces. She has assisted with the photographic illustrations of historical publications, and created garments for curators of museums. Teaching others through talks on topics such as etiquette, mannerisms, clothing, textiles, and Christmas Traditions is her way of giving back to the b8cf0f29d2aace9850aef1505586dad7hobby, and repaying her debt to the ones who helped her by sharing their knowledge.

The intent of this workshop is to introduce the attendees to the clothing worn by ladies in the American South during the period from c1810 to c1820. This will include a presentation on the various clothing and resources available to accurately reproduce the attire for living history functions. There will also be a “hands-on” time where volunteers can answer questions or assist attendees on their specific regency era tailoring issues.
