Police searching Cypress Creek for car… Passenger believed to have succumbed

breaking news featuredFLORENCE – Emergency rescue crews are in the water and around the periphery of Cypress Creek for a person who was a passenger of a car that went into the water. The accident happened between 4:00am and 4:45.

According to media reports, a person showed up at the front door of a house near the Cypress Creek bridge on Highway 20, drenched in icy water. Emergency crews rushed to the bridge and began searching the creek and the shoreline for the missing person, reported to be the passenger.

Within the last hour, the Florence Dive Team has confirmed that they found the car but water temperatures are too cold to dive and the car has been located  by underwater camera.  The water is too murky to see into the car divers will try to get into the car after 2 p.m.

Highway 20 remains close across Cypress Creek.
