Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, February 20, at Cullomburg Baptist Church, Cullomburg, Alabama, for Dirk Singley, age 84, who died Saturday, February 14, 2015, after a short illness. Phillips Funeral Home of Gilbertown, Alabama, directing.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy Singley; his sister, Cookie Whitaker; two brothers, John (Loutricia) Singley and Larry (Diane) Singley; his sister-in-law, Jackie Gershwin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse W. and Elsie W. Singley; an infant sister, Mary Crystal Singley; and his brother-in-law, Riley Whitaker.
Dirk was born in Silas, Alabama, on January 10, 1931, and joined the Navy at the age of 17. After ten years in the military, he moved to Louisiana to begin his very successful career in sales. Later, he relocated to Huntsville and then to Decatur where he lived for 28 years. Dirk was a top-notch salesman, acquiring numerous awards for automobile sales. After retirement, he spent much of his time gardening and was known to generously share the vegetables he grew.
He was a longtime member of Flint Baptist Church in Decatur, where he proudly served as president of the Adult V Sunday school class.
Pallbearers will be Mark Singley, Brandt Ingram, Patrick Singley, Roger Dale Singley, Cecil Singley Jr. and Otho Singley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Singley and the men of the Adult V Sunday school class of Flint Baptist Church.
Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. on Friday at Cullomburg Baptist Church.
