William Mac Tidwell, age 86, of Florence, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2015.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, 1-2 p.m., at Spry~Williams Funeral Home. The service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Brother James Atkinson officiating. Interment will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Price, Steven Price, Bren Butler, Trey Butler, Joey Mitchell and Troy Mitchell.
Nieces and nephews will serve as honorary bearers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dorothy Tidwell, and granddaughter, Tiffanie Price.
Mr. Tidwell was retired from Reynolds after 44 years of service with his last responsibility being a machine operator. He was also a member of Central Baptist Church.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the Marines in Quantico, Virginia, where he was in marine aviation, playing on the Quantico football team as well as being on the track and field team.
Among his other accomplishments were playing football and running track for Tennessee Tech, running in the Knights of Columbus meet and in the Millrose Games at Madison Square Gardens. He also ran the Dixie relays at Legion Field.
Survivors include daughters, Tina D. Price (Jerry) and Mona K. Tidwell; brother, Maurice Tidwell; sisters, Jo Ann Mitchell and Julia Bendall; granddaughter, Monica Butler; grandson, Timothy Price; great-grandchildren, Steven Price, Bren Butler, Hannah Butler, Trey Butler, Ryan Butler, Wendy Butler and Angelina McKay.
Memorials may be made to Florence Animal Shelter.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Julie, Lonita, Stephanie, Jean Marie and Daphne.
