Albert Truman Beggs, of Athens, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at home. Truman was born Nov. 20, 1934, to Albert Lewis and Ruby Tapscott Beggs.
Visitation will be at Rogersville United Methodist Church Sunday, Jan. 18 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. immediately followed by a memorial service.
Truman was a member of Rogersville United Methodist Church, Methodist Men’s Club, Hannah Sunday School class, and Rogersville Optimist Club. He graduated from Austinville High School in 1953 where he was a member of the State Basketball Championship team. He served in the United States Navy, earned his B.S. in Education degree from Florence State College and Master’s Degree in Education from Athens College. He coached and taught science class at Lawrence County High School, Clements High School, and Lauderdale County High School where he retired after 34 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Horace “Shorty” Beggs, and sister, Aline Humphries.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty; daughter, Joy Beggs (Gary) House, Randy (Renee) Beggs, and Larry (Michelle) Beggs; grandchildren, Jake, Jordan, and Lauren Beggs; nephew, Danny Beggs; sister-in-law, Dot Beggs; and special friends and former teammates, Bobby Free, Bill Woodall, and Kenneth Henson, of Decatur.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to RUMC building fund, Turner Lindsey Rd., Rogersville, AL 35652.
