James Gordon Carter died peacefully Monday, January 05, 2015 at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veterans Home, Huntsville Alabama at the age of 73.
James is preceded in death by his mother, Florence Hunt and his father Francis Carter of Toney. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife Cindy Carter of Hazel Green; stepson Kenneth Witmer of Hazel Green; stepdaughter Beatriz Renew and husband Kevin of Toney; grandson Ryan Witmer; and granddaughter Rachel Renew. James is also survived by his brother Donald Francis Carter of Toney.
James was born on May 27, 1941 in Toney, Alabama to Francis and Florence Carter. James attended high school in Toney Alabama. He proudly served in the United States Army during the 1960’s in Fort Bragg, NC, Germany, and Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. After discharge from the Army, Mr. Carter worked as a machinist for the Belt Railway of Chicago Illinois. Upon retiring in 1992, James returned to Madison County Alabama.
James was a member of Stateline Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Taft, Tennessee.
A visitation is scheduled for 6-8 pm Thursday, January 8th, at Stateline Friendship Freewill Baptist Church.
13363 Stateline Road Taft, Tennessee. Funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, January 9th at the church, followed by a graveside service at Bevills Chapel Cemetery in Hazel Green Alabama.
