William Thomas Wynne – Obituary

williamWilliam Thomas Wynne, of Florence, passed from this life Nov. 13, at his home at age 82. He was a native of Rosedale, Mississippi, but had lived most of his life in Florence.

He was a member of Mars Hill Church of Christ. Mr Wynne was a retired architect of Barr, Tune, Wynne Architects, a member of American Institute of Architects, Construction Specifications Institute, and an alternate member of Housing and Construction Codes Appeals Board of Florence.

He was a graduate of Coffee High School and Florence State Teachers College where he was commissioned into the U.S. Army. He served in Korea as an escort officer with the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.

Bill was an accomplished clarinetist who enjoyed volunteering and playing music for the residents of local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. He was a charter member of the Florence State Teachers College marching and concert bands and a past member of the Shoals Concert Band.

His son, William Michael (Mike) Wynne, and parents, John Berry and Dorothy Gardner Wynne, of Florence, preceded him in death.

Survivors are his wife, Barbara Minor Wynne; daughter, Marla Jean Wynne, of Florence; sister, Barbara Williams, of Springfield, Virginia; beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at Greenview Funeral Home today at 2 p.m. Visitation will also be at Greenview from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral. David Sain, Bill Bagents, and Chris Moran will officiate.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Mitch Avery, Samuel Avery, Nathan Dunn, Tom Mathis, Will Mefford, and Matthew Minor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Carlton, Roy Cooper, Jerry Dean, Ike Hibbett, Charles Marshall, Hubert Powell, Lawrence Sledge, E.L. Puller, and the elders at Mars Hill.

Memorials may be made to Mars Hill Bible School.
