Thomas Wayne Wood, 86 passed away November 5, 2014. He was born on March 7, 1928 to the late Lester H. and Alice Gurley Wood. He, his father, and his brother, Leonard, farmed for about 30 years in the Mississippi Delta and in Arkansas. He spent several years during the early 1970’s in southeastern Arizona where he farmed and worked for a family owned moving and storage company before returning to his childhood home area of Dorsey. He retired after working many years for Jesco in Tupelo where he was known by many of his work friends as “Woody”.
He loved gardening, fishing, hunting, reading, and sharing stories about good times.
He is survived by Shirley Doss Woos and their children, Danna (Richard) Fullilove, of Tunica, Vickie Scruggs, Larry Wood, and Deborah(Bob)Sherman of the Fulton area and Bettye(Chuck)Reece of Benson, Arizona. Also surviving him is his sister, Earline and her husband, Ralph Gaither, of Marietta, Georgia. He has seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Senter Funeral Home in Fulton on Saturday November 8, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Minister Ryan Ary officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at Dogwood Plantation of Fulton for their professional and loving care during the past four years and the staff at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo for their most recent hospice care.
