William Dwayne Posey – Obituary

2550-4306-WilliamPoseyWilliam Dwayne Posey, 77, of Florence, passed away on Oct. 31, 2014, at ECM Hospital. He was retired as an electrician from Colbert Fossil Plant. He was a member of Salem Church of Christ, the Zip City Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chairman of the board. Other memberships include the supervisory board of TVA Credit Union, IBEW #558, The Dulcimer Club and volunteered at ECM hospital.
He also taught water and boating safety to children for TVA and volunteered with his uncle, Jimmy Pounders, and took disabled children fishing. He was the Lauderdale Co. Volunteer of the Year in 2009, and he also enjoyed working the polls for the elections and attending the Diana Singing.
Visitation will be on 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Salem Church of Christ with funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. Interment will be Greenview Memorial Park. Caleb Cunningham and Andy Kizer will be officiating the service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lorene Posey; brother, Flavil Posey; grandson, Robert Brandon Posey.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Posey; son, William Douglas Posey (Teresa); daughter, Pamela Celeas Posey Ergle (Mickey); grandson, Robert Taylor Posey; five step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the Alabama Firefighters Honor Guard and grandson, Taylor Posey. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Bentley, Jack Pounders, Chip Posey, James Goode and Jerry Lard.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the members of the Zip City Volunteer Fire Dept., the staff of the Blood and Cancer Center, Dr. Kalliath, Dr. Heaten, Dr. Irons, Dr. Frankle and the nurses and staff of ECM Hospital ICU and the 6th floor.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Zip City Volunteer Fire Department, 9235 Highway 17 Florence, AL 35634.
