Virginia Leland Jones, 83, of Decatur passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at her residence. Mrs. Jones was born December 9, 1930 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Henry Hume and Virginia Mosby Leland. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Decatur where she was the director of the Mother’s Morning Out program. She graduated from St. Mary’s Episcopal High School in Raleigh, North Carolina and attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was a member of the Junior League of Morgan County, Cotillion Club and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Arthur Alvin Jones Jr.; sons, Arthur Alvin Jones, III, MD (Margaret) of Birmingham, Alabama, John Winston Jones of Fairhope, Alabama; daughters, Julia Leland Jones Pierce Dunn (James) of Los Angeles, California and Virginia Ann Jones Sherrill of Decatur, Alabama; brother, George Alexander LeMaistre, Jr. (Jenny) of Montrose, Alabama; sister, Alice Cartwright LeMaistre of Ashville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Julia Merrill Jones Worthey (Thomas) of Atlanta, Georgia; Arthur Alvin Jones, IV DDS (Ashley) of St. Louis, Missouri; John Taylor Jones, MD (Elizabeth) of Birmingham, Alabama; Hallie Ann Pierce Slade (Jesse) of Los Angeles, California; Mary Virginia Sherrill of Birmingham, Alabama; Sarah Ann Sherrill of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Lily Sutton Sherrill of Decatur, Alabama; John Winston Jones, Jr. of Pt. Clear, Alabama and Frances Courtney Jones of Pt. Clear, Alabama; great grandchildren, Arthur Alvin Jones of St. Louis, Missouri and William Leland Slade of Los Angeles, California and a first cousin Leland Madison Park of Davidson, North Carolina. Pallbearers will be Barrett Clinton Shelton, Jr., Barrett Clinton Shelton III, Bill Wyker and Jimmy Wiley, MD. Visitation will be Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at First Presbyterian Church of Decatur, followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm at First Presbyterian with Reverend Tody Mueller officiating. A private burial will take place at Decatur City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Hospice of the Valley. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
