Dalphis Boyd “D.B.” Pierce – Obituary

Dalphis Boyd “D.B.” Pierce, 83 of Haleyville, entered into rest on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville.

Mr. Pierce was born on July 5, 1931 in Haleyville, Alabama to Marshall and Ella Mae Pierce. He proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army. D.B. was a member of South Haleyville Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was also a Baptist minister and was a song director. He retired from Illinois Central Railroad after many years of service as a conductor. D.B. loved riding and training horses. He was a great family man and loved taking care of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. At a very early age, he was nicknamed “Dick” by his mother and daddy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00am at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville. Burial will be in Winston Memorial Cemetery. Brother Frank Chaney will officiate.

He is survived by his son, Anthony “Tony” Pierce and his wife Leigh; daughters, Marcia Harbin and her husband Harold, Susan Holley and her husband Paul; sisters, Doris Buchanan, Jackie Creel and her husband Gene, Heloise Jones and her husband Burt. He was “Paw Paw” to nine grandchildren, Jason Harbin, Kelli Wilson, Timothy Harbin, Mary Harbin, Becca Stults, Matt Stults, Zach Pierce, David Harbin, Sarah Harbin; and “Paw Paw Pierce” to; 8 great grandchildren, Holley Grace Stults, Haley Harbin, Greenleigh Harbin, Emma Harbin, Gage Mallard, Dalton Harbin, Sadie Mallard and Gavin Mallard.

D.B. was preceded in death by his wife, Jewelene Pierce; parents, Marshall and Ella Mae Pierce; and brother, Frank Pierce.
