William Morris “Bill” Giles – Obituary

William Morris “Bill” Giles, 76, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2014. Visitation will be today, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee, Alabama. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Cherokee. He will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service. There will be a graveside service 4 p.m. Thursday at Rutherford Cemetery, Rutherford, Tennessee. Scott Livingston and Mike McKnight will officiate.

Bill was a native of Las Vegas, Nevada and graduated from the University of Tennessee. He retired as plant manager of LaRoche Industries. He was a member of the Cherokee First Baptist Church and the Cherokee Lions Club, where he served as “Santa” for the club’s annual Breakfast with Santa. He also served on the Water Board of Cherokee.

He was a published author and a comedian “Simp Bean.” One of his greatest joys was being PapPaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid gardener and woodworker and used his many talents to help beautify Cherokee.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Halliburton Giles; his daughters, Robin (Tom) Chandler, Rene’ (Mike) McKnight, Rhonda (Richard) Allen, and Regina (Brian) Goddard; his sister, Chloe Wood; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Fred Clarke, Tyler Chandler, Austin Goddard, Ernie Wann, Aaron Chastain, Dwight Castle, and Will Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be retired employs of LaRoche Industries.
