Joy June Delmore Faught, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday September 3rd, 2014. Joy was born April 25, 1928, the oldest of three daughters born to Joseph M. and Sally C. Delmore in Decatur. Her parents, and her sister, Jean Hammon, predeceased her.
Joy is survived by her four sons, Ken (Arrice), Kevin (Julie), Kyle (Leighanne); Kip (Angela). Additionally, she is survived by her nine grandchildren, Ryan, Wesley (Jamie), Bethany, Chelsea, Joshua (Gayle), Zachary, Reaghan, Kayla and Matthew. Joy is also to be a great-grandmother to Anna Wesley Faught daughter of Wesley and Jamie. Joy is also survived by her sister, Fay Hammon, and many nieces and nephews.
Joy graduated Decatur High School in 1946 and began working at a local bank. She married in 1952 and later moved to Birmingham. She faithfully attended First Baptist Church Center Point for over 45 years, teaching third grade Sunday school, and being involved in numerous other ministries. She adhered to the Biblical principal to train up a child in the way that he should go, in guiding her sons. She moved to Tuscaloosa in 2006 and attended Taylorville Baptist. Joy worked for over 15 years at the Jefferson County Probate Court Offices, but of far more importance to her was being a gracious hostess to all who entered her home, and being a friend to others, and especially a tremendous mother, mother-in-law and Nana to her children and grandchildren, who loved her greatly. Proverbs 31 describes her life- her children rise up and call her blessed, many women do noble things but you surpass them all, charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears The Lord is to be praised, give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise.
Visitation will be today, September 5, 2014, at Ridout’s Trussville from 5 to 7 p.m. with funeral and celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Saturday September 6, 2014. Graveside service will be that afternoon at Decatur City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan, Wesley, Joshua and Zachary Faught, David Faught, Gary Hammon, Micky Hammon and Ricky Hammon, with all grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Center Point general/benevolence fund.
