clydeLocal business owner and former Florence City Commissioner, , ended his long, courageous battle with throat cancer and its aftermath, Saturday, July 26. He left very peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Clyde was a life- long resident and “proud citizen” of Florence. A Coffee High School graduate, Clyde beat the odds by overcoming unrecognized dyslexia, and he and his beloved wife Joan started their self- named company, Bohannon Pest Control in 1971 in the backyard of their area home. As his business grew, Clyde became an active member and leader in the pest management industry both locally and nationally. The Muscle Shoals Home Builders Association was also his passion, before illness interceded, and his awards and acknowledgements were many. With his vast business and life experience, Clyde became a successful industry consultant and did numerous informational seminars around the southeast and Canada. Writing the story of his and his brother Gerald’s life consumed many hours of his last year and will soon be published.

Clyde became a true believer in “living life” after his cancer diagnosis. He relished travelling to other areas of the country and even abroad. His Harley Davidson became his favorite means of transportation and he was honored to ride it on events such as the Trail of Tears with other bikers. A determined grandfather and great grandfather, he made sure to visit his family despite his limitations. His very frequent companion, a beautiful Boxer named Duke, also received his special love and attention. He very much enjoyed early mornings, being outside and appreciating Gods special gifts of nature. Clyde was a commanding presence, vital life force, loving and giving and will be very greatly missed.

The family would like to express very sincere gratitude to Gentiva Hospice and their special Rosa, John Lawson and Milner-Rushing Drugs. The Burger King “crew,” the Waffle House “family,” and his friends at Homeside are “super” and their kindness, friendship and support were invaluable.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gerald, sisters Barbara and Susan, and first grandson, Albert Brooks. He reluctantly leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Joan G. Bohannon, his son Colonel Brian Bohannon, USAF (Beth), daughters Cindy Bohannon Keller (Craig), and Lori Bohannon Nylund. Sisters Norma Hardeman Owen, Linda Bohannon Moore, (Glenn), sister in law Marian Jobst Bohannon. Grandchildren Matthew, Tawnya, and Haley. Great grandchildren Joshua Leo, Jacob, Jackson Clyde and Noelle. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center, 10 Hightower Place, in Florence, AL.

Dress will be causal (blue jeans are okay).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Florence City Library or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

Family would appreciate privacy during this time of grieving.
