Wendell Ray Heflin, 79, of Trinity, passed away July 19, 2014, at his residence. Visitation will be today, July 21, 2014, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Lavanul Sherrill on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with burial in Morris Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members.
Mr. Heflin was born April 27, 1935, to Ira J. Heflin and Louise Daniel Heflin. He retired from International Paper after 42 years of service in the paper industry.
He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He spent many happy days working on his farm and raising cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, of 38 years, Frances Heflin, his brothers, Randell Heflin and Lendell Heflin, and his daughter, Lesa Rasbury.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Melba Heflin; son, James Heflin (Wanda), of Trinity; daughter, Nesa Tucker, of Decatur; brothers, Red Heflin (Marilyn), of Trinity, and McCoy Heflin, of Trinity; sisters, Gayla Heflin Louis (Arnie), of Hatton, and Reba Heflin Proffitt (Bob), of Trinity; stepchildren, Tammy Haden (Joe), of Decatur, Kim Watts (Martin), of Decatur, and Robbie Watts (Billi), of Trinity; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to sister-in-law Sharon Sivley and Hospice of North Alabama.
