Nell Cooper Williams – Obituary

Nell Cooper Williams, age 94, died July 18, 2014, at her residence in Somerville.

Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Rueben DeLloyd Cooper and Minnie Pratt Cooper of the Liberty Community, Pickens County, Alabama. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Preston Williams; three brothers, Wilford Cooper, Winfield Cooper and Waymon Cooper; and five sisters, Juanita Atkins, Winnie Shelton, Willetta Elmore, Marguerite Simpson and Frances Waites.

She is survived by her son Gary Donald Williams; daughter-in-law Delean Moldey Williams and numerous nieces and nephews with whom she shared a special bond of love and friendship.

Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Livingston State Teachers College, Livingiston, Alabama, now the University of West Alabama and taught young children for a total of 38 years. During those years she served at Spring Hill Community School, Lamar County, Alabama, Millport Elementary, Millport, Alabama, Riverside Elementary, Fort Meade, Florida and East Elementary, in Cullman. She was an avid reader, having read over 2500 books in the last few years. She frequented the Somerville and Priceville libraries often. She also loved to cross stitch and was very good at it.

She was a faithful, dedicated and supportive member of Seventh Street Baptist Church in Cullman where she had many dear friends and neighbors. 

Special thanks to hospice nurse, Jewel Ann Mills, hospice aide, Dana Sullivan, hospice chaplain, Harold D. Fanning and sitters, Jean Waddell and Wanda Harvell.

Pallbearers will be Larry Atkins, Jimmy Elmore, Jerry Elmore, Paul Simpson, Glyien Williams, J.A. Williams, Hal Williams and Paul Williams.

Visitation will be today, July 20, 2014, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home in Cullman with service immediately following. Brother Eric Martin, pastor at Seventh Street Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in Cullman City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made in her name to either Seventh Street Baptist Church 708 7th Street SW Cullman, Alabama 35055 or Hospice & Home Health Fund of Alabama 2400 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35244.
