Alta Ozell Tittle Talley, 89, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at River City-Genesis Healthcare. She was born August 30, 1924, in Lynn, Alabama, but lived most of her life in Birmingham. She retired from Tommy Boy Togs in Birmingham. She loved to make beautiful quilts, which are precious possessions of her children and grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. In recent years, she and her husband had lived at Morningside Assisted Living until Mom’s health began to decline. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Chester Tittle.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Alton, three sons and their wives, Richard and Anita of Decatur, Robert and Ava of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Edward and Carolyn of Walland, Tennessee. She has six grandchildren, Rick Talley of Decatur, Sheryl Flavin (Chris) of Port Charlotte, Florida, Chris Talley (Carrie) of Madison, Leah Peete (Preston) of Decatur, Shawn Talley (Michelle) of Urbana, Maryland, and Jonathan Talley of Birmingham. She was also the proud grandmother of 12 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Steve Chandler, Morningside Assisted Living, River City Healthcare and Solana Unit for their loving care of Mom during her decline with Alzheimer’s. We would also like to thank AseraCare Hospice for their loving end-of-life compassionate care of Mom. These professionals were a great blessing to us.
Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held for her Birmingham friends and family at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville, on Monday, July 21, at 11 a.m. with Mark Smith, minister at the Eastside Baptist Church in Roebuck officiating.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Mental Health Association, Alzheimer’s Program, P.O. Box 1502, Decatur, AL 35602.
