Dora Nell Helton went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2014. Following a long illness, she passed away in her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James T. Helton. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Ricky and Jean Helton, Cathy and Ray Durham, Donna and Opie Watson, Karen and Skye Lester, and Sharon and Chris Gurley. She also leaves eight loving grandchildren and their families.
Dora was the daughter of George and Lou Christa. She was born on December 23, 1939. She and her six siblings were raised in Lincoln Village in Huntsville, AL. She is preceded in death by her brother James Christa and her sister Lou Ella Helton. Her surviving siblings are Hazel Morrison, Juanita Herron, Kenneth Christa and Donald Ray Christa. As her large family suggests, Dora also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members.
Dora, in whatever capacity that one knew her whether as mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, or friend will ever be remembered in our hearts and minds as a truly beautiful person. We will all cherish the memories of this special woman and the place she built in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, Alabama from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday, July 10, 2014. The funeral service will be held the following day, Friday July 11, 2014 at the Spry Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00pm.
