charlesCharles Edward Hardy of Youngsville, Louisiana (formerly of Hartselle, Alabama) passed away at his home in Youngsville, Louisiana, at 78 years of age on July 2, 2014. He had a long and hard fought battle with cancer but he enjoyed every minute of his life, loved his family with all his heart, and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ when his battle was finished.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra Clyde Hardy and Ruth Elizabeth Jones Hardy; his brother-in-law, Patrick Lipsey; his aunts, Ruby Jones and Ella Moon; and his uncle, Harry Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Lipsey Hardy; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason Charles Hardy and Allison Hayes Hardy of Lafayette, Louisiana; his three special grandchildren, Jacob Charles Hardy, Sarah Elizabeth Hardy, and Zachary Richard Hardy; his brother-in-law, Will Lipsey (Meg); his sister-in-laws, Ann (John) Roper, Lori Lipsey (Dale) Robinson, his nieces, Stephanie (Paul) DeLucenay, LeAnna Lipsey, Madison Lipsey (Zach) Weatherbee; his nephew, Alec Durand; a special little niece, Anna Grace DeLucenay; his aunts, Helen Luker and Modeana Hardin; his uncle, Paul Jones; and his cousin, Jean Moore.
Charles grew up in a household with many aunts, uncles, and cousins who were all as close as siblings. He graduated from Falkville High School of Falkville, Alabama and St. Bernard College of Cullman, Alabama, where he played basketball. He attended and played basketball at the University of North Alabama. He was a member of the United States Armed Forces Reserves and his unit was mobilized during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked for Bellsouth and was retired after many years of employment. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Hartselle, Alabama and most recently a member of Covenant United Methodist Church of Youngsville, Louisiana. He was an avid Alabama football fan and loved playing golf with his church group. He loved his Lord, Jesus Christ. He doted on and adored his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend and he left his mark, gentleness and kindness, on everyone he knew. He was a true Southern and Christian gentleman who exemplified all that is good and he will be missed here on earth by everyone who knew and loved him. We are elated and joyous, however, that he is with his Lord and all who have gone before him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church of Hartselle, Alabama or Miles Perret Center Cancer Services of Lafayette, Louisiana.
