Luther Boyce Alverson passed away on June 25, 2014 at his home in Sheffield with his best friend and loving wife of 66 years, Vivian Hamilton Alverson at his side. He was born on May 30, 1923 in Itawamba County, Mississippi, to Roy and Bessie Lee Alverson.
He was a graduate of Vina High School and was the salutatorian of the class of 1941. That same year he began studying engineering at the University of Alabama. Prior to his graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After basic training, the Army sent him back to engineering school at North Carolina State University. He was then assigned to a mapping and photographic unit in the Philippine Islands. Upon completing his military service, he finished his education at the University of Alabama, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1947.
After working as a construction engineer for several years, he went to work as a design engineer with TVA in Knoxville, Tennessee. He later transferred to Colbert Steam Plant where he served as mechanical engineer and mechanical supervisor, retiring after 34 years of service.
Luther was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sheffield. He was also a member of the University of Alabama National Alumni Association. P.O BOX 861928 Tuscaloosa AL.35486
He was pre-deceased by his parents, and brother, Roy Lee Alverson, and two son-in-laws. He leaves three children; Bonnie Alverson Few, Gary Alverson (Benita), and Sharon Alverson Mizelle (John); six grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Treva Alverson Smith (Richard); and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 1pm-2pm at Colbert Memorial Chapel, followed by graveside service.
