Steven Lawrence Berryman, of Decatur, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, following a brief illness.
Steven was born Dec. 29, 1947, to Flur Woodrow Berryman and Marie Bradford Berryman, of Town Creek, and was married March 7, 1981, to the former Brenda Martin, of Florence.
Steven was a graduate of Hatton High School, the University of North Alabama and the University of Alabama. He taught mathematics for 27 years at Lawrence County High School and East Lawrence High School and was a hydro-fossil operator at TVA for seven years.
Steven was an avid supporter of the University of North Alabama and the University of Alabama. He was devoted to his wife, two children and family, and loved Alabama football, Yankees baseball, NASCAR racing and music from Don Williams and Kris Kristofferson.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Janice Morris and Rita Bragwell. He is survived by his wife and children, Jason Berryman and wife, MJ, of Perth, Western Australia, and Stephanie Berryman, of Huntsville; brothers, Scott Berryman (Wynell), of Hatton, Dan Berryman (Sandra), of Hatton, and Andrew Berryman, of Tuscaloosa; sisters, Jeanne Manley (JC), of Town Creek, Cathy Hughes (David), of Decatur, Dale Hughes (Ray), of Trinity, Thalia Yarbrough (Clinton), of Hatton, and Rhonda Sorrells (Mark), of Priceville; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services for Steven will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home in Moulton. The Rev. Sherry Harris is officiating. A graveside service for family will follow in Mount Zion No. 2 Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home, with family visitation preceding. Pallbearers will be nephews, Palmer Byrd, of Hoover, John Byrd, of Florence, Chelsey Hughes and John Hughes, of Birmingham, Paul Hughes, of Decatur, Clay Hughes, of Trinity, Chris Yarbrough and Evan Berryman, of Hatton, Everett Sorrells, Connor Sorrells and Jordan Sorrells, of Priceville, and Austin Sorrells, of Auburn.
The family has asked, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in the name of Steven L. Berryman to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org/donate)
