Lionel Edward Allen – Obituary

LnoelLionel Edward Allen, 94, passed from this world on Friday, at Tut Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville. His wife of 70 years, Annie Carroll Allen, preceded him in death. He was the last brother living of six brothers: Thomas Allen, Lloyd Allen, Calvin Smith, Kirby Smith, and Randolph Smith. He was also preceded in death by his father, Wilburn Allen; mother, Addie Allen Smith; and step-father, Edgar Smith.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in Australia and New Guinea.

Lionel retired from Meadow Gold Dairies after 37 years. Most of those years, he was a wholesale salesman to businesses in East Huntsville. He was a plant supervisor for the last few years before his retirement.

He is survived by his daughters, Linda (John) Bramblett, Huntsville, and Mary Ann (Larry) Barksdale, Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Tammy (Eric) Prater, Montgomery, Tracey Williams, Tuscaloosa, Taylor (Virginia) Williams, Atlanta, and Tallee Williams, Birmingham; and four great-grandchildren, Will Prater, Matt Prater, Mason Williams, and Jackson Williams.

The family would like to thank the professionals at Tut Fann who cared for him so lovingly for the last eight months of his life and who took time from their duties to stop in to check on him or share a smile with him. Thanks also to Southern Care Hospice for overseeing his care.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 27, at Laughlin Funeral Home from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
