Mrs. Winsett was a retired school teacher and lifelong resident of Madison County. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.D. Winsett, son, W. Gary Winsett, and parents, Blutcher B. Moon and Della Harris Moon Gilligan.

She is survived by her son, Dick Winsett, grandson, Jonathon Harris Winsett, granddaughters, Julie Melissa Winsett (Adam Lipson) and Lisa Marie Winsett, daughter-in-law, Dianne Sausen Winsett, and great-grandson, Samuel Jacob Lipson. She is also survived by many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Winsett spent her younger years at the Harris family home in Pond Beat (now part of Redstone Arsenal). She attended Farley and Riverton Schools. She moved to her current Hazel Green farm location with her widowed mother and grandfather, J.B. Harris in the late 1930’s. She graduated Hazel Green High School, attended Jacksonville State and graduated Athens College, with continuing education at University of Alabama, Huntsville.

Mrs. Winsett taught elementary classes at Meridianville, Hazel Green and capped her 30 years teaching career with her last 24 years at Madison Cross Roads School. Her husband, W.D. also taught here simultaneously along with several other married couples, including longtime friend and principal Gordon and Ruth Mitchell.

After school and during summer vacations, Mrs. Winsett and her husband operated their 100 acre farm, raising Angus cattle and growing peaches. She spent many summers selling peaches at the Farmers’ Market. She liked the cash business.
Mrs. Winsett was an active, lifelong member of Hazel Green United Methodist Church, volunteering and chauffeuring other members. She has many special loved friends there who have supported and prayed for her for many years. She and special teacher friend Mrs. Winnie Graham traveled together extensively after losing their husbands and was a member of the Joy Travelers. Mrs. Winsett’s favorite trips abroad were to London, Greece and Israel.

Mrs. Winsett suffered a life-changing stroke in 2001 but largely rehabilitated and remained physically active, enjoying twice daily rides in her ’95 Buick. She has benefited from the support and caring of numerous neighbors and friends, there are too many to list.
The Lasater family has been unfailing in their support, advice and love for her more than 75 years.

Many caregivers have faithfully attended Mrs. Winsett since 2001, but a special thanks and gratitude goes to Charlsie Helton, and loyally for the last six years, Barbara Collins and Denise Richardson. The Reverend Jeff Havens visited and ministered her devotedly for many years.
Pallbearers will be Trevor Ferguson, S. Mark Harris, Carroll Lasater, Ray Morris, Frederick Rayhle, and Merrill Walker.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 27th, 4 pm until 7 pm at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville. Services will be Friday, March 28th, at 11 am with the Reverend Rudy Guess, Jr., officiating also at Spry Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens, Highway 72 West.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Hazel Green United Methodist Church.
