Edwin L. Thompson, 80, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at his home following a long illness.

He was born in Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 14, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard P. Thompson Sr. and Ima Belle (Johnson). Ed graduated from Central High and enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 where he remained until 1957.

He attended the first all-jet aircraft maintenance school in Amarillo, Texas. He spent two years in the Philippines with the 44th Fighter Bomber Squardron. His final duty station was Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala.

After the military, he made a career in the refrigeration system business.

He loved shooting pool and was a steadfast Atlanta Braves fan.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Nancy Grigsby, also an avid Braves fan.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edwin L. Jr.; daughters, Lori Ann and Pamela Ann; sisters, Martha Ruth Reilly and Dorothy D. Norris; and brother, Howard P Thompson Jr.

He is survived by brothers, James D. “Donald”, Kenneth R. and Richard A. Roberts; and sisters, Helen A. Thompson, Vita M. O’Brien, Patsy L. Tonubbee (Richard), and Robbie J. Warley (Jack Person).

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Thompson-Jones Family cemetery on Upwind Court, Nashville, Tenn.
