sleet rain snowTUPELO– A traveler advisory is in effect for the Natchez Trace Parkway from Jackson, MS (milepost 100) to the Alabama state line (milepost 310).

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and advisories for these areas.  A mixture of sleet, freezing rain, ice and snow can be expected beginning Monday evening and extending into Tuesday evening.  The greatest area of impact on the Parkway is expected to be between Kosciusko, MS and Tupelo, MS.

In preparation for the possible effects of this storm, the Jeff Busby campground, located at milepost 193, will be closed at noon, February 10, 2014.  The site will be reopened when the storm threat has passed.

Motorists are advised to avoid using the Parkway during periods of winter weather due to the possibility of icing on the road surfaces and bridges.  In addition, lower traffic counts on the Parkway mean that any icing or snow that occurs will take longer to melt than on more heavily used roads.
