Larry Hawes – Obituary

Mr. Larry Hawes, 81, of Leighton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014. He was a member of Leighton Baptist Church. He served our nation in the United States Air Force. He later retired from Reynolds Metals as foreman after 18 years of loyal service. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Larry Parker Gargis, one brother, and five sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 wonderful years, Cathrine “Cat” Hawes; son, Mike Hawes (Rhonda); daughter, Gwenda Counts (Dwaine), Cheryl Maples (Charlie); grandchildren, Marquita Klinedinst (David), Angie Counts, Starla Counts, Mary Counts, and Chase Hawes; granddaughter-in-law, Ashley Gargis; great-granddaughters, Blakley, Lexie, Melaney, and Emiley; and a host of loving nieces nephews and other family members.

Pallbearers will be Terry Bolton, Nelson Richardson, Kenneth Davis, Chuck Barrett, Ben King, Ronnie Beaver, David Logan, and Terry Dawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Lash, Luell Shaneyfelt, and his Shriner brothers.

We will receive friends at Colbert Memorial Chapel on Sunday, Feb. 9, from noon-2 p.m. Brother Steve Pilkington will officiate the service beginning at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Our family gives a special thanks to Dr. A and the Critical Care Unit of ECM Hospital, Gentiva Home Health, and Dr. Taylor for the care given to our dear loved one.
