James Clyde “Jim” Gorrell, 58, of Columbus, Miss., passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus, Miss.
Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, Miss. Funeral services will be Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Brother Sammy Crawford officiating and Brother Breck Ladd assisting. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, Miss., with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Gorrell was born Oct. 11, 1955, in Waynesville, N.C. to Jesse Clyde and Jean Metcalf Gorrell. He worked as a team coordinator for Weyehauser for 28 years. Mr. Gorrell was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Ken Aldridge’s Sunday School class, and AOPA. He enjoyed flying his Cessna 150 airplane, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Mr. Gorrell got great pleasure in helping people in need.
Mr. Gorrell is survived by his parents; wife, Nena Sims Gorrell, Columbus, Miss.; children, Chad Gorrell, Rogersville, Ala., and Taylor (fiance, Leslie Franklin) Gorrell, Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Joel (Sherry) Gorrell, Dublin, Ga.; and a sister, Judy (Greg) Palmer, Rogersville, Ala.
Pallbearers will be Zack Palmer, Wayne Smith, Andy Owens, Kent Walker, Henry McQueen, Johnny Frisby, Mark Young, Mark Caldwell, and Jimmy Hildreth.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Crane, Donnie Brown, Gary Winklepleck, Brad Sims, and Greg Palmer.
