glowing catWe have all known for quite a while that many animals, insects, and plants have a natural bio-luminescence. But just recently, Japanese scientists have shown that even humans have a very faint bio-luminescence.

As it turns out, the human body emits a very faint amount of light.  The quantity of light that we put out varies based on the time of day. We are dimmest in the evening and at our brightest in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, the brightest we ever glow is about 1000 times weaker than the human eye can see. Interestingly, there is no correlation between body heat and illumination. Unlike a light bulb, the light that our cells emit is completely cold.
