Francis (Frank) Walter Nelson, 88 of Sheffield died Sunday January 26, 2014. The visitation will be Tuesday January 28, 2014 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be Wednesday January 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home chapel with Brother Chad Holder officiating. Burial will follow in Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery. Military funeral honors will be presented at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 31 of Tuscumbia.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Sheffield. Mr. Nelson was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was retired from the U.S. Army with 40 years of military duty both in active and reserves. His active duty assignments included returning POWs to Germany and the repatriation of service member remains after the war. He was also retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Frank was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Richard Stanley Nelson, Jr. And Michael Clayton Allen, Jr.
Survivors include his wife Martha (Sue) Hovater Nelson, sons Rick Nelson and wife Kathy of Huntsville, Randy Nelson and wife Karen of Florence, Rusty Nelson of Sheffield, Roy Nelson and wife Rita of Muscle Shoals, and daughter Jan Nelson Allen and husband Mike of Muscle Shoals. Grandchildren: Patrick Nelson, Michael Nelson, Brad Nelson, Blair Nelson, Amber Graves, Chad Nelson, Tyler Nelson, and Maggie Allen. Great grandchildren: Zac Nelson, Katie Nelson, Aubrey Nelson and Ellie Grace Graves. He is survived by one sibling, Mrs. Jerry Nelson Hughes of Houston, Texas.
