Richard Anderson Ward, age 78, of Florence, Ala., went home on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born on March 11, 1935, to William Franklin and Velma Berry Ward, originally of Delmar, Ala.
The visitation will be Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Central Heights. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Ellis Coats officiating. Interment will be at New Hope Cemetery.
He leaves a devoted wife of 61 years, Magdalene Alexander Ward; three daughters, Donna Smith, Debra Bolden, and Susan Clemons; grandchildren, Lori Smith Osbirn, Amy Smith Aday, Justin Clemons, Chase Clemons, Sarah Bogus, Mark Bolden and Angie Gutherie; and 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Douglas Ward; sister, Lora Ann Robinson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In his early years, Mr. Ward owned and operated three different businesses, Superior Transmission, Transamatic Trucking, and Transamatic Convertors. After retiring in 1983, he was an avid farmer.
Pallbearers will be Matt Aday, Steve Clemons, Anthony Bevis, Tyler Armstrong, David King, Ricky Crider and Andy Martin.
