southwire 2012_08_04_2499THE SHOALS – It’s almost time for the school year to begin. Sorry kids… Congratulations Parents in making it through another Summer with your little bundles of joy. With this in mind, who wouldn’t like to score a slew of schools supplies at no charge?

Well, this Saturday is the Second Annual Back-To-School Supply Giveaway at Southwire. Last year’s event was a HUGE success and this year promises to be even bigger.

Southwire is located at 4251 Helton Drive, Florence.

Here’s the news release:

“Southwire is hosting their 2nd annual Back to School Supply Give-Away through a program called Project Gift. We are giving away 1,000 bags of school supplies to students in our community. The first day of school is often a time of excitement for students, but it can be a tough time for parents who are struggling to make ends meet. Our goal is to help students kindergarten through the 12th” grade prepare for the school year by providing supplies to aid them in their education.

Southwire is committed to investing in our community. We take from the community so this is a way we can give back. Another way we give back to the community is through a program called 12 For Life. We partner with Florence City Schools by providing jobs to students so they are able to go to school part of the day and work part of the day. Our goal is to see these kids complete 12 years of school, graduate with a high school diploma, and instill in them job readiness.

Our Back to School event will be Saturday, August 3, at 4251 Helton Drive from 10am-12noon. Along with distributing 1,000 bags of school supplies, there will be vehicles on site from the police and fire department, refreshments, free eye exams, face painting, and more! There will also be a vote for your favorite teacher drawing! We are so excited to be giving back to our community by hosting this special event. Come on out this Saturday at lO:OOam! It is going to be a fun-filled way to kick off the upcoming school year!”
