Brother Hosea H. Smith, 80, of Muscle Shoals, departed this world to go home on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.
Visitation will be Friday, July 26, from 6-8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home in Moulton. The service will be at the funeral home Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. with Brother Bryan Wilson and Brother Ricky Hood officiating. He will be laid to rest at Providence Cemetery in Hatton with his wife of 58 years.
Hosea was born in Lawrence County on Aug. 31, 1932. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Vera Pauline Wright on Nov. 28, 1953. His passion in life was serving the Lord. As an ordained minister of 51 years, he faithfully served as pastor and evangelist, teacher and counselor to numerous congregations throughout the state. He was a member of Tuscumbia Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Myrtle Simmons Smith; wife, Pauline Wright Smith; sister, Alpha Gilbert; and brothers, Aaron, Aussie, Raymond and Thomas Smith.
He leaves behind his children, Patricia (Barry) Faulkner, Killen, Ala., Debora (Mark) Campbell, Empire, Ala., Dwayne (Nancy) Smith, Leighton, Ala., Joseph (Debbi) Smith, McCalla, Ala., Deanna (Edwin) Young, Pinson, Ala., and Kennely (Kathi) Smith, Hueytown, Ala.; 23 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Henry (Dorothy) Smith, Hatton, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Audrey Smith and Jewel Flanagan, Florence, Ala., and Annie (O’Neal) Bowling, Leighton, Ala.; and many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Smith, Randal Smith, John Faulkner, Cory Smith, Jake Smith, Matthew Young and Ethan Campbell. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Tuscumbia Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank dad’s caregivers at Cypress Cove Nursing and Rehabilitation, staff and physicians at Helen Keller Hospital, Hospice of North Alabama, Tuscumbia Valley Missionary Baptist Church and especially our family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Tuscumbia Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
