Etha Truitt King (Mrs. Hershel L. King, Sr.) – Obituary

Mrs. Etha Truitt King (Mrs. Hershel L. King, Sr.), age 94, of Florence, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013.

 

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday at Elkins Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The graveside service will follow in the Hamilton City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Truitt Allison officiating.

 

Mrs. King grew up in Lexington, Alabama and was one of six children of Robert Henry Truitt, a Lauderdale County Road Commissioner, and Missouri Belue Truitt. During those years, Mrs. King was a member of the Lexington Church of Christ. Her special ministry to others was baking fresh coconut cakes and angel food cakes.

 

After her marriage to Mr. King, they owned and operated the Fred King and Sons store in Hamilton from 1940 to 1987. She moved to Florence in 2009 to be nearer her children.

 

She is survived by her daughters Judy K. Berry (Myron) of Florence and Kathy Steele of Arley, AL; a son Loyd King (Kimberley) of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren Ron Berry (Donna) of Birmingham, Melanie Baker (Mike) of Richmond, VA, Darin Steele (Linda) of Bethesda, MD and Lamanda Steele (Ken) of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; great-grandchildren David, Rebecca, Harold, and Elsie; a brother Almon Truitt of Florence.
