Donna Hambrick Huffman, age 75, of Decatur, Alabama, loving wife, daughter, mother and grandmother, passed away on October 20, 2026. She was born in Decatur, to Mary Alma Pfaff Hambrick and John Sanford Hambrick. She graduated from Decatur High School, Oxford College and Emory University with a B.S. degree in Biology. Donna also graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina with a M.A.T. degree in Biology teaching.
Donna met and married Dr. Franklin Carver Lee while working as a graduate assistant at Clemson University. Together, they had two children. Their daughter, Dr. Allison Marie Reeves Lee, lives in Waldwick, New Jersey, with her husband Dr. David Reeves and their twin sons, Thomas Elliot and James Michael Reeves. Their son, John Richard Hambrick Lee, lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife Jessica Dianne Sparrow Lee and their two children, Charlotte Dianne Sparrow Lee and John Carter Sparrow Lee. Her first marriage ended, and she later married Ramsey Black Huffman. Through this marriage, she gained two stepchildren. His son, George Asgill Huffman, lives with his wife Ginger and has three children. His daughter, Demaree Robin Huffman Mangum, with her late husband Matt, has one child.
During her career, Donna taught at Calhoun Community College, where she directed (and co-authored lab manuals for) anatomy and microbiology laboratories, and also taught biology courses at Wallace State Community College. She co-taught field studies in the U.S. desert southwest, Smoky Mountains, and the Florida coast. She also directed and judged local, regional, and state science fairs for several years before retirement.
In retirement, Donna enjoyed playing bridge, traveling with her husband, and researching her genealogy. A lifelong devoted Presbyterian, she established the archives at First Presbyterian Church and authored its published history, The Way Made Clear: The History of Presbyterianism. When the First Presbyterian Church eventually closed, the Decatur Methodist Church purchased the property. Consequently, she and Ramsey joined the Methodist congregation, allowing them to continue worshipping in the very same church building.
She is survived by her husband Ramsey and children Allison, John Richard, Gill and Demaree.
Visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall at Decatur Methodist Church at 2PM on Sunday, October 25, followed by the Funeral Service at 3PM in the Sanctuary. A Graveside Service will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.
