Born on November 10, 1935, in Waterloo, Alabama, he was a man who appreciated hard work and the simple pleasures of life. For many years, he made his living in the great outdoors as a skilled logger and truck driver, navigating the woods and the open roads with dedication and a deep sense of pride in his work.
When he wasn’t on the road or in the woods, he could usually be found surrounded by music, nature, or good friends. He had a natural gift for music and loved playing the mandolin and harmonica, often filling the room with familiar tunes. He was an avid outdoorsman who found peace fishing on the water, and he rarely turned down a friendly competitive game of shooting pool. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his love for a good melody and his undying love for his God and family.
He is survived by his children, Jerald Smith (Carol), Bobby Smith (Charlotte), Patty Littrell (Jack), Lorie Lovelace and Kevin Smith (Debbie); grandchildren, Anthony and Craig Smith, Miranda Simpson, Brandi Miller, Amy Barrier, Wesley and TJ Lovelace, Colt Smith, Lacy Danielle, Robin Blackmon, Missy Miller, Laura Butler, and Dana Gibbs; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and his loving sister and best friend, Mary Ann Mitchell.
He is finally reunited in heaven with his loving wife, Sue Smith, who he missed dearly everyday since her passing and we take comfort in knowing they are walking hand in hand again.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Emmett and Odella Smith; brothers Daniel, Ray, Buford and JP Smith; sisters Era Geans and Juanita Russell.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Smith, Craig Smith, Wesley Lovelace, TJ Lovelace, Colt Smith and Wyatt Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Wood, Kane Simpson, Emmett William and Jackson Murphy.
