Olga Luera Perez, 80, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital. Born February 11, 1946, she was a lifelong resident of Kingsville, Texas, until seven years ago, when she moved to Huntsville to be closer to her children.

Olga was fiercely devoted to her faith, and her Jehovah’s Witness congregations were her second family. She kept close ties with her brothers and sisters in Kingsville and found the same love in her congregation in Huntsville. Olga was an exceptional beauty, but those who knew her knew she was even more beautiful on the inside. Her kindness and generous heart showed in how she cared for others. Her own family was always on her mind, and so was everyone else’s. She never forgot to ask people about their loved ones and how each of them was doing, and she cared about the answer as if they were her own. Gracious, resourceful, and resilient, she was an iron fist in a velvet glove, and one of the last great ladies.

She took her role as a mother very seriously, and long after her children were grown, she still wanted to know what time they got home, if they were getting enough rest, what was for dinner, and if they could possibly avoid traveling in the rain.

A lifelong dog lover, Olga leaves behind her dog, Shelly. Her sweet Cosita, who was just waiting for her mom to go first, will be laid to rest with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Dominga Luera; her brother, Manuel Jr. “Sonny” Luera; and her sister, Gloria Jimenez. Her dear sister, Margie Carrales, followed her in death just two hours later.

She is survived by her children, Joe Perez, Ricky Perez (Wendy), and Michelle Perez Long (George); seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Avenue, Huntsville, Alabama, with a service following at 11:00 a.m. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.
