It is with very heavy hearts that we announce
the passing of Benjamin Paul Brown, age 38,
of Guntersville. Ben passed away after a short
illness on Thursday, October 8th, surrounded
by his family.
Ben was born in 1988 to Paul and Michele Brown. He grew up in Guntersville,
where he graduated high school in 2006. Ben attended Auburn University on an
honors scholarship, graduating in 2010 with a Communications degree, with
focus on radio, tv, and film. One of his main loves was music, and he enjoyed
choral studies and musical theater in high school. At Auburn, he was a member
of the Auburn University Choir and the AU Chamber Choir. While in college, Ben
also worked at WEGL, Auburn’s student-led radio station.
After graduation, Ben worked in radio at Tiger Communications in Auburn. He
later worked with Cumulus Media in Montgomery as a production and continuity
director, and then remotely as a traffic coordinator.
Ben was a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and was a camp counselor
at Camp Maranatha during his high school years. He touched many lives with his
kindness, big heart, booming radio voice, unwavering loyalty, and empathetic
spirit.
Ben is survived by his parents, Paul and Michele Brown of Guntersville; sister,
Maggie Brown St John (Chris) of South Ogden, Utah; and grandmother Cindy
Sims, of Guntersville. He was preceded in death by grandparents Bob and Ann
Brown and grandfather John H. Sims, all of Guntersville.
A visitation to celebrate Ben’s life will be held Thursday, October 15th from 2:30-
5:00 pm at Brock Hall, First Presbyterian Church, Guntersville, Alabama. A
private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests donations in Ben’s memory to the Presbyterian Home for
Children (PO Box 577 Talladega, AL 35161).
