Lila Denise Cochran Benefield, age 72, left this earthly home on Thursday, October 8, 2026 to return to her heavenly home with her loved ones that went before her waiting.
Denise was proceeded in death by her son, Stephen Benefield, her mother, Maylene Cochran Sargent and her grandparents, Irvin and Myrtle Cochran.
Denise is survived by her son, Luke Benefield (Priscilla), her daughter, Ariel Benefield, her sisters, Shirley Sargent Carver and Chrissy Cochran, her aunt, Pat Bush, her grandchildren, Rhett and Lily Benefield and their mother Kimberly Benefield, Matthew, Tyler and Keelin Benefield and many, many cousins that loved her dearly, her good friend, Dianne Cochran and other friends she had made over the years.
Denise was a graduate of B.B. Comer High School where she was a majorette and Jacksonville State University where she majored in English and taught English for a while. She was born in Miami, Florida and lived in Sylacauga, Alabama most of her young life and lived in Huntsville, Alabama for several years before her death.
To know Denise or to have met her was knowing what a sweet and kind soul she was. She always wanted to help others even when it meant not doing for herself.
Denise had a strong faith in God. that she carried throughout her life. Hand written scriptures were on everything in her home.
Above all she had a love for her children and grandchildren that surpassed everything in her life. They were her life. Her home was filled with pictures of them everywhere.
Grateful for our savior, Jesus Christ, that she is no longer in pain and no longer suffering. She has left her broken body behind and now walks through those streets of gold with a smile on her face. We will always remember her love and kindness. Continued prayers for her family at this time is greatly appreciated.
