Emmett Russell “Red” Fowler passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026, at the age of 92 at his home in Nairn, Louisiana. He was born on August 5th, 1934 in Swaim, Alabama. He was the fifth child of Emmett S. Fowler and Eva Langston Fowler.
A native of Princeton, Alabama, he grew up farming and logging in the mountains of North Alabama. Upon the death of his father, Russell traveled to South Louisiana, where a few his siblings were living, to work in the oilfield. Through hard work and determination, he became a top pipeline mechanic for Gulf Oil until his retirement.
While living in and working down in Boothville, he met his wife, Irene D. Fowler, whom he was married to for 67 years and resided in Nairn.
Although Russell worked many hours as a mechanic, his true love was cultivating his land with spring and fall gardens and maintaining his citrus trees. It was not a day go by that you would not see him in his garden or on his tractor.
Russell was a member of the Masonic Order. Starting at 19 years old at the lodge in Princeton, Alabama, he worked his way to becoming a Master Mason and worshipful Master at the Triumph Lodge 442 in Buras. He was also a member of Gerard H. Barrois, Jr. Lodge 469; James L. Stanifer Lodge 504, and of the Scottish Rite and Knights Templar organizations.
Russell was well known by many in the community as kind, caring person who never met a stranger and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters- Evon F. Chapman (Herman), Amanda F. Paisley (John), and Louise F. Hobby (Don); his brothers-Richard S. (Bama) Fowler (Anne), and Fred W. Fowler (Louise); daughter, Regina Ann Fowler; and daughter-in-law, Laurie Patton Fowler.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; son, Randol T. Fowler (Robin); daughter, Carol Fowler Baggett (Frank); grandson, Ryan T. Fowler; brother, David H. Fowler (Margaret); and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends.
