After her family moved to Estill Springs, Darlene attended Franklin County High School. On January 3, 1962, she married her soulmate, Daniel Stewart. Her work career began in clothing and shoe manufacturing working at Genesco, Lanier, and Decherd Franklin. She then became Director of Nursing for Care South Home Health, where she continued to work until her retirement in March of 2008 due to health problems. Over the course of her career, Darlene received several awards and continually sought educational opportunities in her field. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in the yard, planting flowers, and riding four-wheelers in the mountain. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family, particularly enjoying family picnics.
