Carter Lee “Corky” Hood, 80, of Jasper, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 6, 2026. He was born on August 5, 1946.

A graveside service for Carter Lee “Corky” Hood will be held Monday, October 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Boldo Cemetery in Jasper, Alabama, Neal Hood will officiate. There will be no service at the funeral home.

Collins-Burke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carter proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with U.S. Steel, where he worked until his retirement.

Carter was a faithful member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith and family were important parts of his life, and he cherished the time he spent with the people he loved. He will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the love he shared with those around him.

Carter was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, JoAnn Hood; his sons, Patrick, Jarrett, and Todd; his parents, Chelsey and Louise Hood; his brothers, Chelsey Odis Hood and Ralph Hood; and his sisters, Gloria Jean Baker, Cynthia Hood, Hazel Hood, and infant sister Christy Hood.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Blake Hood (Bradley Walker) and Kylyn Hood (Blake Madison); his grandchildren, Jarrett and Kal-El; his special niece, Christy Dozier and her husband, Dexter; his brothers, Neal Hood and wife Karen, Gregory Hood and wife Elaine, and Lowell Hood and wife Darlene; his lifelong friend, Cordell; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Affectionately known as “Uncle Corky,” Carter held a special place in the hearts of his family. He loved his family dearly and treasured the time he spent with them. He had a way of creating memories that will be remembered and cherished for years to come. His love, laughter, stories, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the VA, especially Jason, Lisa, Beth, and the VA staff; Dr. Emily Williams; CenterWell Home Health, especially Luke, Raina, and the staff; and Dr. Westerman and his staff for the compassion, kindness, and loving care they provided to their beloved Corky.

A very special thank-you is extended to Chase, Tamara, Taygen, Slayde, Mason, Madison, Maverick, Keegan, Kamden, and Kendalynn for loving Uncle Corky and spending precious time with him. Your love, time, and memories with him meant so much to him and to his family. Uncle Corky will always live on in your hearts.

Pallbearers will be Blake Hood, Jarrett Brasher, David Higgins, Kevin Higgins, Slayde Dozier, and Bradley Walker.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kylyn, Kal-El, Taygen, Maverick, Tommy Stivener, and Clint Hood.

Carter leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him dearly. Though he is no longer here to share another laugh, tell another story, or make another memory, his love will continue to live on in the hearts of the family and friends who were blessed to know him.

Rest peacefully, Uncle Corky. You were deeply loved, you will be greatly missed, and you will be remembered always.
