Ella Sue Barber Hall passed away on October 4, 2026, at her home in Tuscumbia, Alabama at the age of 92.
Sue was born in Ashford, AL on August 14, 1934, to James Austin and Mattie Pearl Barber. Their house was right across the street from the school, and this would set the stage for one of her greatest passions, teaching. Sue attended Troy State Teachers College, now Troy State, where she majored in Elementary Education. While she was there, she also played trumpet in the band. This is where she met the love of her life and future husband, Robert Keats “Bobby” Hall. They lived most of their married life in Panama City, Florida where they both taught in the school system. Sue loved teaching and continued to do so for 40 years. After retirement and the death of her husband, Sue moved to Tuscumbia to be near her daughter, Joy Gina Williams and her two grandchildren, Lauren and Nicole. She embraced her new community by getting involved in many activities. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Tuscumbia and sang for years in the choir. She belonged to bridge clubs, study groups, and traveled extensively with local groups. She had boundless energy for new adventures.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Pearl Barber; her sister, Betty Jane Hartzog; and her beloved husband, Robert Keats “Bobby” Hall.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Gina Williams (Jerry), her two cherished granddaughters, Lauren Emily Perkins (Brian) and Nicole Suzanne Donnell (Sam) and her crowning jewels, her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Donnell, Jack Donnell, Grayson Perkins, and Eloise Perkins.
A special thank you to Alabama Hospice of the Shoals and her sitters, Dana, Melinda, Pam, and Ashanti for making her last days pleasant and comfortable.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, October 9, 2026, at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. and services to follow at 12:00 noon. Dr. Jerry Williams will be doing the eulogy. The interment will be Evergreen Memorial Gardens, in Panama City, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude.
