We’ve all heard the song “Simple Man,” and that’s exactly who my Daddy was. He came from humble beginnings, raised in a little shack, spending his childhood fishing and learning early on to appreciate the simple things in life. He even picked cotton to save up enough money to buy his very first guitar, and then taught himself how to play it.
From there, music became a part. of who he was. Daddy truly lived.
He traveled all over, playing music, meeting people, making memories, and leaving a little piece of himself everywhere he went. He could make you laugh when you didn’t feel like laughing, and I know I’m going to miss those witty comebacks and that sense of humor more than I can ever put into words.
Daddy passed peacefully this morning. A few days ago, he waved, smiled that big smile, and said, “Momma.” I truly believe Paraleigh came with Jesus to take him home. I believe he saw someone he had missed for so long, and when the time came, he, knew he wasn’t making that journey alone.
And I can’t help but picture what
Heaven sounds like today.
I know Uncle Billy’s.on the banjo, Paraleigh is singing, Jake is sitting there tapping his foot and smoking his pipe, and Daddy is playing that guitar again, free from pain and infirmity.
He was survived by his daughter Jessica, son Carthel, and a special son Matthew Lemley.
Grandchildren
Richard Halliwill, Blaine Grayson, and Olivia Grayson. And two wonderful great grandchildren.
