Mr. Garry Wayne Young, 79, of the Hulaco/Ryan community, passed away Sunday evening, September 27, 2026 at Woodland Village in Cullman, Alabama. He was born on February 9, 1947 in DeWitt, Arkansas. He was the son of Woodrow Wilson Young and Myrtle Mozelle Bennefield Young. Garry was a high school graduate and U.S. Army veteran retiring from the Alabama National Guard. Garry worked as a furnace operator in Decatur’s manufacturing industry. He married Rita Fay White Young in July 1978, and they shared 48 years together.
Garry was a member of Hebron Church of Christ. Everyone loved Garry and he loved everyone. He made everyone comfortable, was always smiling and sharing a good joke. He was an Alabama football fan who enjoyed traveling, exploring new places and cooking.
Garry is survived by his wife, Rita Fay White Young; niece, Melissa Swanner; nephew, Mark Garrett (Stacey); and many lifelong friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Mozelle Young and sister, Mary Jo Garrett.
Services for Garry will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Family, friends and guests will gather for visitation at 12:00 noon with the funeral service following. Brock Johnson and Dennis Latham will be officiating. Burial will be in Ryan Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are L. B. White, Tony White, Donnie Garrett, Robert Whisenant, Mark Garrett and Joey Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Echols, Johnny Bruce Bright and Logan Swanner.
