Roger Earl Lawrence was born to Christina and Roy on September 2, 1951, in Madison County, Alabama. He was born into the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama. After graduating from high school, Roger joined the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country for five years. While serving in the USMC, he took up playing the bass guitar and went on to play with many bands throughout the Huntsville, Alabama, area. Roger also worked as an auto body shop repairman. He continued working whenever he could, even up until the age of 74. He was a hardworking man who took pride in staying busy and providing for himself and those he loved. One of Roger’s greatest joys was fishing. Fishing was his happy place, where he said there were no worries. All he had to do was “cast, catch, and reel.” He especially loved crappie fishing and enjoyed spending time on the water. Roger believed in the Lord and listened to the Bible daily on his phone. His faith was an important part of his life, and his words and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. As he traveled the River of Life, Roger enjoyed listening to some good old blues. His message to those he loved was simple and heartfelt: “Don’t cry for me. I’m okay. I have loved and been loved.” He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the love of family and friends who will forever cherish him. Roger is survived by his son, Robbie E. Lawrence; daughters, Dianne M. Webber (Dana) and Selena Lawrence Baker (Jason); sisters, Jerda (Ken) Smith, Barbara Finley and Judy (ED) Kenny; brothers, David (Nina) Lawrence and Richard (Anita) Lawrence; grandchildren, Brendan (Mackenzie) Lawrence, Trinity (Amaya) Harper, Zoe A.R. Harper, William S. Mullanaphy, Dannah (Paul) Mullanaphy (Thomus)Bethany E. Lawrence, Evan Schweitzer Lawrence, Ryleigh Lawrence, and Laila Lawrence; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Lorraine Lawrence; parents, Ruby Christine and Roy Edward Lawrence; sister, Alice Petty; wife, Pamela Whalen; brother, Jerry Lawrence; son, Roger Eugene Lawrence; great granddaughter, Amelia Grace Harper; brother-in-law, Kenneth Finley; and nephew, Mark Bates.
