Duane Robert Williams, age 57, of Sumiton, Alabama, passed away on September 13, 2026.
Duane was a carpenter by trade and a craftsman at heart. He loved being outdoors and took great pride in the simple satisfaction of building something with his own two hands. His skill as a carpenter was more than a profession–it was something he genuinely enjoyed and a reflection of the hardworking man he was.
Those who knew Duane will remember him most for his one-of-a-kind personality and his ability to make people laugh. He was a happy soul who loved bringing a smile to the faces of those around him, whether intentionally or through one of the crazy one-liners that seemed to come so naturally to him. In his younger years, Duane was certainly known for his wild streak and more than a few crazy shenanigans, leaving his family and friends with plenty of stories that will undoubtedly be told—and laughed about-for years to come.
As the years passed, Duane settled down and, most importantly, found his way to the Lord. Through all the different seasons of his life, he remained unmistakably Duane-spunky, funny, genuine, and always willing to lend a listening ear. His advice, his laughter, and the unique way he could brighten a room will be deeply missed by everyone who loved him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel. Burial will be at Walker Memory Gardens. Brian Savage will officiate.
Duane is survived by his son, Steven Williams and wife, Megan Gilliam- Williams; his grandchildren, Daniel, Alex, Callie, and Quinn Gilliam- Williams; his sisters, Donna Lane, (David), and Diane Mann; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Waylon and Lillian Williams; his sister, Brenda Moncrief; and his brother, Waylon Williams.
Duane’s life may have had its share of wild stories, laughter, hard work, and lessons learned, but through it all, he left an impression on the people fortunate enough to know him. His larger than life personality, listening ear, words of advice, and unforgettable sense of humor will live on in the memories and stories shared by those who loved him.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
